RESEARCH DATA
About Eczema Treatment

Eczema: a non-contagious, inflammatory disease of the skin with much itching and burning. It may be acute, sub-acute or chronic...It may occur at any age and may be caused by a variety of internal and external factors.

What is Eczema?

Eczema is an inflammatory skin disorder characterized by patches of dry, red, flaking skin that can be inflamed, moist, or oozing. Eczema can affect any part of the body, but is most commonly found on the face, scalp, and hands, behind the ears, and in the creases of the elbows, knees and groin. Most eczema sufferers develop the condition during the first nine years of life. It is not contagious.

Short-lived eczema is known as acute; while eczema that lasts for several years with intermittent periods of remission is known as chronic. With chronic eczema, the skin may become thick and scaly and may change color.

Whether you suffer from acute or chronic eczema, you probably experience periods of severe itching that makes scratching unavoidable. Yet, avoid it you must, because scratching leads to cracked, bloody skin and the further spread of the disease.

Types of Eczema

True eczema falls into one of two categories: atopic dermatitis and contact dermatitis. Both types of eczema are thought to be the result of allergic reactions. Many eczema sufferers have other allergies as well, such as asthma, hay fever, or intolerance to certain foods. Emotional stress often contributes to bouts of eczema as well.
  • ATOPIC DERMATITIS is inherited and usually appears in infancy or early childhood. The majority of atopic dermatitis sufferers report a history of eczema in their families. This type of eczema can worsen after eating certain foods or after being exposed to other allergens, such as pollen or dust. This type of eczema can be chronic.
  • CHRONIC DERMATITIS is the most common form of eczema and is often an allergic reaction in response to touching some sort of irritant, such as soap, detergent, bubble bath, makeup, fabric dye, feathers, metals, wool, plants, or animal hair.
Based on certain symptoms, the type of eczema you experience can be categorized even further:
  • Eczema Papulosum is identified by the appearance off small, red lumps on the skin known as papules.
  • Eczema Pustulosum is identified by the formation of pustules.
  • Eczema Rubrum is a stage of eczema accompanied by redness, swelling, pus, and oozing.
  • Eczema Sclerosum is a chronic and advanced stage of eczema where the skin thickens, fills with pus, and hardens to form a lesion.
  • Eczema Siccum is identified by dry, scaly skin.
  • Eczema Varicosum is also known as hypostatic or gravitational eczema and is caused by impaired or restricted flow in the veins.
  • Infected Dermatitis is identified by crusty, scaly patches of eczema near an ulcer or discharging wound -- and can be caused by a bacterial allergy or by scratching.
  • Infantile Eczema characteristically begins in the face then moves to the elbows, knees, neck, wrists, and ankles. Symptoms usually retreat in teenage years. Interestingly, the breast-fed child is 60% less likely to be affected than the bottle-fed child.
  • Nummular Eczema appears as round, symmetrical lesions. These can be scattered over the whole body but are most common on the legs and can be intensely itchy. Nummular eczema is also known as discord eczema.
  • Pityriasis Alba is most common in darker skinned children and adolescents and forms white, round, or oval patches on the skin.
  • Seborrhoeic Dermatitis is found in hair-covered areas such as the scalp, neck, and groin. Dandruff and cradle cap are common examples of seborrhoeic dermatitis
Treating Eczema Homeopathically

Homeopathy is widely used in the successful treatment of eczema. It can be very effective as well as safe and easy-to-use with minimal risk of side effects. There is an increasing amount of scientific evidence which confirms the efficacy of homeopathic medicines, and more and more patients with eczema are finding great benefit from this form of treatment.

From the homeopathic point of view, the suppression of skin eruptions (especially with cortisone or other drugs) can lead to deeper health problems. Homeopathic Eczema Formula from Sympathical Formulas can provide soothing and temporary relief from painful symptoms of eczema but for deeper treatment, a constitutional remedy should be chosen by an experienced practitioner, to fit a person on many levels, and bring the body into better balance.

Natural Tips to Relieve Eczema Symptoms
  • Use Homeopathic Eczema Formula to reduce itching as much as possible and therefore reduce scratching. When eczema is scratched it causes the skin cells to reproduce rapidly thus leading to the eczema patches spreading. This then makes the condition much more difficult to control. A cool compress applied to the affected area can decrease the itching quickly as can an Oatmeal bath.
  • Take oatmeal baths. Wrap a cup of oatmeal in a clean cloth. Put this bag under a running tap and swish it through the bath water. Squeeze and rub the wet bag over the skin.
  • Do not let the skin dry out. Avoid long baths and showers as they can easily remove vital, natural oils from your skin. Moisture can be locked into the skin by applying Homeopathic Eczema Formula to the skin after washing.
  • Expose affected areas of skin to the air as much as possible. Lengthy exposure to sunlight should be avoided as this will have a detrimental affect on the eczema, but 30 minutes in the sun can help to reduce inflammation.
  • Wear soft, organic cotton clothing and try to make sure that it is free of harsh laundry detergents. Consider rinsing clothes, towels, and wash cloths twice. And always use chemical-free, all-natural laundry soap.
  • Avoid food and environmental allergens.
  • Reduce everyday stress and the stress of the condition by relaxing and mediating when possible.
