Since an inadequate diet is a major cause of constipation, a healthy diet is a key to its elimination.- The general recommendation is to change to a high-fiber diet rich in carbohydrates, vegetables, and fruits. Increasing dietary fiber increases the frequency and quantity of bowel movements.
- The amount of fluids people drink is another important consideration in the treatment of constipation. Drink a minimum of eight glasses of pure water per day. In order to promote proper digestion, however, high liquid intake should occur away from mealtimes, because consuming excessive liquids with food reduces digestive functions.
- Raw juice therapy can be helpful for constipation. One approach involves drinking sixteen ounces of one of the following juice combinations throughout the day. Choose from any of the following formulas:
- Eight ounces of carrot combined with eight ounces of apple
- Eight ounces of carrot, four ounces of celery, and four ounces of apple
- Twelve ounces of carrot combined with four ounces of spinach
- You can combine the intake of fiber and fluids through fruit smoothies. Try blending a mix of high pectin fruits like apples, peaches, pears, and berries, with a quarter cup of oat bran and a quarter cup of flaxseed powder or flaxseed meal. If there are no dairy allergies, a few tablespoons of yogurt may be added as well.
- It would be wise to be tested to see if the problem relates to the use of various drugs and antibiotics. You can request that testing include a stool analysis to check for yeast overgrowth, and a liver panel to track the function of the liver, which is critical to normal bowel function.
- Regular exercise is a great help for constipation.
