Helps maintain a healthy heart. Some scientific evidence suggests that consumption of antioxidant vitamins may reduce the risk of certain forms of abnormal cell growth. However, FDA has determined that this evidence is limited and not conclusive.
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant that has numerous health benefits. Vitamin E fights against damaging natural substances known as free radicals. It is incorporated in to the fat-based tissues of the body, such as the heart, fat-carrier molecules like LDL (“bad” cholesterol), and our cell membranes, where it acts to stabilize these structures and protect them from free radical attack. Vitamin E is complementary with Vitamin C in its function, therefore Vitamin E and Vitamin C should be taken together.

The term vitamin E describes a family of eight antioxidants, four tocopherols, alpha-, beta-, gamma- and delta-, and four tocotrienols (also alpha-, beta-, gamma- and delta-). Alpha-tocopherol is the only form of vitamin E that is actively maintained in the human body and is therefore, is the form of vitamin E that appears to have the greatest impact on health. There are several forms of vitamin E supplements. Alpha-tocopherol is the natural form, dl-alpha tocopherol is the synthetic form. Although natural vitamin E (alpha tocopherol) is more bioavailable, both have been shown to be effective. Because of Vitamin E’s strong antioxidant effects, supplementation exerts a protective effect in many common health conditions. Vitamin E dl-Alpha is recommended to be part of a daily regimen for Heart Health, Women’s Health, Men’s Health, Family Health, Longevity, Prenatal, 4 Basic Vitamins, Memory, Fitness.

FAQ
When speaking of Vitamin E, how many IU equal a milligram (mg)?
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin, which is typically measured in International Units (IU). If you are taking the Nature Made 100% Natural Vitamin E (d-alpha tocopherol), 1 milligram (mg) is equivalent to about 1.49 IU. If you are taking the Nature Made synthetic Vitamin E (dl-alpha tocopheryl acetate) 1 milligram (mg) is equivalent to about 1 IU.

What dietary sources contain Vitamin E?
Vitamin E can be found in a variety of vegetables (spinach, green peas, sweet potatoes, bean sprouts, black-eyed peas, etc.), nuts (cashews, almonds and peanuts, etc.), seeds (sunflower seeds, etc.), and oils.

What is the Vitamin E (dl-alpha tocopheryl acetate) derived from?
The dl-alpha tocopheryl acetate form of Vitamin E is synthetically derived.

Vitamin E is considered a fat-soluble vitamin, does this build up toxicity?
Relatively large doses of Vitamin E have been taken for months to years with no significant side effects. The established Upper Limit (UL) for Vitamin E is 1000 mg per day.

Can Vitamin E be taken while on a blood thinner?
If you are on ony medications that thin the blood, we would recommend you consult with your physician before taking supplemental Vitamin E, as very high doses of Vitamin E can have a blood thinning effect as well.

What is the difference between the two following forms of Vitamin E:d-alpha tocopherol and dl-alpha tocopheryl acetate?
The d-alpha tocopherol form is natural vitamin E, which is derived from soybeans. The dl-alpha tocopheryl acetate form is a man-made synthetic vitamin E. Some studies have shown both natural and synthetic forms of vitamin E to be absorbed equally well, while other studies show that the natural form is slightly better absorbed in the body.

Why did the Vitamin E I bought previously appear to be a pale straw color, whereas my new bottle has much darker softgels in the bottle?
The allowable color variation for Vitamin E is a pale, straw color to very dark amber. As long as the product you purchased is in this color range, they would certainly be fine to use and the color would be considered normal.

Does this product contain gamma tocopherol?
Our dl-alpha tocopheryl acetate product does not contain any gamma tocopherol. However, both our Advanced E and our Natural Vitamin E will contain gamma tocopherol.

Are there any precautions I should take before taking Vitamin E?
Consult your physician before taking vitamin E if you have vascular disease (such as heart disease or a history of stroke) or diabetes, are pregnant or nursing, taking medication, facing surgery, have bleeding problems, or are undergoing any treatment which may affect the ability of blood to clot.
