Ingredients


2/3 cup diced onion
1 1/2 teaspoons olive oil
1/2 tablespoon minced fresh garlic
1/4 teaspoon red chili flakes
1 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
6 cups canned whole tomatoes
1 1/2 cups canned tomato purée
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
1 tablespoon chopped fresh oregano

Directions

In a large saucepan, sauté onion in olive oil over low heat. Add garlic and brown slightly. Add red chili flakes, dried herbs and sauté for about 30 seconds.

Immediately add whole tomatoes and tomato puree. Simmer for approximately 1 hour or until sauce has thickened. Add honey, fresh basil and fresh oregano. Puree slighlty in a blender, if desired.

Serve 1/2 cup over 1 cup cooked pasta.
